Common Tern (Sterna hirundo)
This is a breeding adult doing it's best to chase me away. They come in fast and right at you. When they fly up just inches from your head, they poop on you. I held my camera up and just held the shutter trigger down hoping I got something. I did this several times and this is the best one. I did have to clean off the camera. Nickerson Beach Park, Long Island NY.

Stylidium are known as "trigger plants" because of the unique, irritable flower column which is triggered by insect visitors. The trigger remains cocked until an insect probes the flower and then springs upwards and deposits pollen on the head or back of the insect which then transfers the pollen to another flower.

It's coming into Autumn here but these Trigger Flowers are trying to make the most of the weather. They usually flower in Spring and Summer but it was so dry and hot that they seem to have put flowering off till later. We've had plenty of rain now so the flowering season has extended.
Last week I shot for a restaurant, a real estate broker and a bank so I really need a "just for fun" project. This is clearly just for fun.

Photo from the first roll of film used to test my then new Leica M3. I felt so happy pressing that shutter....
Vík lies directly south of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which itself is on top of the Katla volcano. Katla has not erupted since 1918, and this longer than typical dormant period has led to speculation that an eruption may occur soon. An eruption of Katla could melt enough ice to trigger an enormous flash flood, potentially large enough to obliterate the entire town. The town's church, located high on a hill, is believed to be the only building that would survive such a flood. Thus, the people of Vík practice periodic drills and are trained to rush to the church at the first sign of an eruption. The town of about 300 inhabitants has 1,400 hotel rooms for scientists and tourists, who are also briefed about Katla's dangers. (Wikipedia)
These Canada Geese take off into the morning light...my what a beautiful spectacle to see.It takes a lot of power and energy to muster those wings into flight.

The droplet rises like a pillar of fire, caught in a surreal moment where liquid defies gravity. The interplay of red hues makes it feel like a flame frozen in time, a reminder that even chaos can be beautifully structured.
Focus stack (20 images) Shot with three off-camera strobes (Leica SF 60/Leica c! trigger). Flash A camera right at 20 degrees, 30 degrees above subject. Flash B mounted over head on boom, bounced off 32 inch umbrella set at 45 Degree angle toward camera. Flash C modified with MagMod BagSphere behind veluum scrim used as background
Foggy and slightly raining at that time. Had to hold the umbrella in one hand and the shutter trigger on the other hand during this time. If you click the arrow to enlarge the image, you can still see the droplets on the water.
Not an eye catching image, but the mood is what I'm after.

I usually setup 2 lights with shoot through umbrellas for our tight little interior shooting area. The lights are triggered with radios, specifically Pocket Wizards. But, let's say you occasionally run into a problem with one, or more, and they don't work, usually a fluke though. Pocket Wizard's are top of the line radio triggers, but even they can fail from time to time. In the above photo the main light on the left didn't fire. Usually, the image would be a "throw away." But, in this case, I kinda' liked the the result and decided to do the edit. It is proof that even one off camera light could yield some interesting results.

Sunrise at Shankill, Dublin, Ireland
It was near high tide. Two brave people were heading in for an early morning swim.
It was a clear calm morning but unfortunately there was cloud on the horizon. The Sun eventually appeared through a gap in the clouds.
I had my camera mounted on my Manfrotto 190 tripod and I used a Hahnel remote trigger.
